I love it
when I find interesting stuff at the supermarket. Today was lunch day with Gary the bass player. I like to call him Gazza as the Aussies would do, but he shortens it to Gaza. I'm sure he feels persecuted and I'm pretty sure he might be sympathetic to other Gazas, although I'm not speaking on his behalf by any means.
To cut to the chase there is one one place in New Jersey within reasonable driving distance that sells Vegemite. It's as rare as hen's teeth and I don't even know why this particular Shoprite sells it but they do. At 8 bucks a jar it ain't cheap. As I was walking away from the "British Foods" section I saw something out of the corner of my eye. This is the kind of thing that I love. Right on the bottom shelf there was something called Pat's the Baker's Toasty bread. Gary starts telling me it's pre-toasted, it's not. Who would pre toast bread? That's crazy. Anyhoo, I bought some and it's great. It was so fresh (it's famous) that it didn't need toasting. The best thing is that it was baked in Ireland. It's been voted Ireland's best bread, and I can say that only having tasted one other bread from Ireland, Pat's is better.
I also found some Turkish pide bread which I also love. One of the last times I did a solo show in Petersham in Sydney there was a Turkish baker across the street. After the show a couple of us wandered across the road and about 1.30 am. They had just pulled some fresh bread out of the oven and simply gave a few loaves to us for free. I have no idea why they did this but it was the most delicious bread I'd eaten in a long long time. The show wasn't bad either. I'm hoping that the bread I bought today will taste almost as good after a quick visit to the oven. We'll see.
This Shoprite has an amazing variety of stuff, and it's all jammed into a building that is relatively small compared to most supermarkets. I can't wait to go back there even though it is in Jersey which is always a traffic nightmare.
Today's journal is somewhat banal I know, but that's what I did so far today. I have to redo some guitar parts from yesterday's rehearsal, because even though it's a rehearsal I record everything and sometimes post some of it on youtube. This is my live presence on the internet now. I don't play out, so if you want to see what I do, it's there and current.
I don't have much more to add to this. I'm sick of even thinking about politics, I probably won't even bother to vote. Unlike Australia nobody is coming after me if I don't. As if it even makes a difference anymore. Our greatest leaders have feet of clay it seems. It's all so very tiresome.
Happy Friday.
