I've got a lot of vinyl.
I have a cupboard full of it. Yesterday I started pulling some of it out and and trying to make some order from what I had. I have a lot of Southern Gospel records. I haven't played these for some time. Half of the stuff I have are things that I'll never play, so a of of this dross I can get rid off. There's also the collection of LPs that the previous owner left behind, and quite a few "production records". I inherited them from the radio station I used to manage in Sydney in the mid nineties.
These are records that have specific themes that were made so that someone making a 30 second commercial had a ready to go music bed to lay the voice over on. There's also film music and a lot of TV music for dramas, comedies, newscasts, documentaries, you name it. I like a lot of these albums because there are pleasing to the ear. They're "easy listening" if you will. I even have some Muzak albums. The internet tells us that,
"Inventor George Owen Squier, credited with inventing telephone carrier multiplexing in 1910, developed the original technical basis for Muzak. He was granted several US patents in the 1920s related to transmission of information signals, among them a patent for the transmission and distribution of signals over electrical lines.
Squier recognized the potential for this technology to be used to deliver music to listeners without the use of radio, which at the time was in early state and required fussy and expensive equipment. Early successful tests were performed, delivering music to customers on New York's Staten Island via their electrical wires."
Otherwise known as "Elevator music" it's what you still hear in places where where people come together for reasons other than listening to music, (like shopping malls) and during telephone calls when placed on hold. Anyhow, I have some Muzak albums, maybe I'll put them in my car's playlist.
The car playlist changes all the time. I get bored very easily listening to the same tracks over and over. For some weird reason I don't seem to get sick of the southern gospel ones as easily. Probably because I can sing along and I like the vocal style.
This is all very interesting I know. Last night Rick called me and said Jon said that he didn't have time to play in the band anymore. I don't know. Jon seems a bit overworked or overstretched or something. TBH I don't mind having a break for a while myself. I've kind of blown out my shoulder muscles with too many back to back work outs and playing guitar, so I could use some time off from that.
My arms only hurt when I'm doing these specific things, so less of that would be welcome. Like the record collection there are probably dozens of hours of video of the band rehearsing and butchering up songs that I have yet to edit and post to Youtube, so I can do other musical things in the meantime. I also want to release a new album, but I need time to get it together.
With the Youtube material I decided to leave most of the mistakes in because so-called music is so surgically and flawlessly produced these days that it's refreshing to hear the occasional bum note (for me anyway).
My last topic for today (I seem to have written a lot) Is the Australian Football League grand final which takes place this weekend. To say that I've completely lost interest in this fake and gay bullshit is an understatement. This will only make sense to a handful of people but Aussie rules started on the downward spiral the day that they decided that South Melbourne as a team shouldn't exist anymore, and move to Sydney.
Everyone that lived in South Melbourne had to just grin and bear it. It was for the good of the club you know. The next blow was getting rid of Footscray and calling it the Western Bulldogs. This was again for monetary reasons, but for people like myself, whose grandfather had played in the reserves and lived within earshot of the home ground, it was unacceptable.
This was followed by Fitzroy being cancelled and moved to Brisbane. They were rebadged the Brisbane Lions, but I still know them as Fitzroy. The residents of these suburbs lost their team, and nobody cared.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the God Coast Suns, a completely made up team with a completely shithouse made up team song that I still think is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Then there were the West Coast Eagles, the Adelaide Crows etc etc. All they want now is a team from Tasmania and the thing will be national.
This weekend's grand final is two teams that I don't even recognize, and that didn't exist when you could hear the opening siren from the Footscray footy ground my grandmother's house in Pickett Street. Today I could care less about the AFL and their woke corporate horse crap.
I could also care less who wins or loses at this point. Don't even get me started with these women's teams. Down Under it's women, women, women. They can do everything a man can do. I think they're actually trying to erase men from the picture down there completely. You're probably not gonna be a real man unless you become a poofter. I can't wait for Pauline Hanson's United Nations address in 2028.
Happy Friday
