It’s been snowing

all weekend and we’re not even near the end of January. I’m officially over winter. Moments ago there was somebody across the road using a leaf blower to move the snow off the sidewalk. We can’t escape the leaf blowing menace, even in the depths of fucking winter. The worst part is that it has been snowing on and off, so if you remove the first layer, another one comes along in a few hours and covers what’s left of what you manged to remove and it so it gradually gets packed down hard. This happens three times in a row and now you’ve got the makings of an ice rink when it all freezes over, which it will do because the rest of the week it’s going below freezing day and night.

The whole thing is very boring indeed. The heating bill last month was $1500. Anywhere it doesn’t snow is looking great right now. Even Florida. This morning I was watching the BBC and they were all agog talking about Greenland and Trump’s desire for full ownership. I have to admit I didn’t see that coming. World War Three I was expecting, but not Russia, China and the US against Europe and the British Commonwealth.

Jonas Gahr Store, Norway’s leader, received this text message on Sunday.

“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Mr. Trump wrote in the message, which was first published by PBS.”

Good grief, he’s serious.

Trump is now Col Kurtz from Apocalypse Now!

Starting last week, I was have (I was have???) been trying to rearrange my work space with not a lot of success. Although this is quite a large house, there never seems to be enough room for all the stuff I have acquired. I had two rooms on this floor that had all my junk in it, but I cleared it all out of one of them and now it’s in the other one. The basment is still partially clogged up by the previous owner’s crap, but it’s getting better.

I need a real big clean out of that space, and then maybe I can move my operations down there. I have tried in the past with limited sucess. The floors need to be redone and of course all the detritus needs to go. There are still cooking utensils in boxes that the previous owner used in his job as a chef, and that’s a small part of it. Last year I finally added a pipe to the drain that had been pouring water into the basement for the last twenty years.

Unbelieveable as it was, nobody had done anything about it. Some knucklehead had cut the drain pipe and poured concrete into the drain. They had then jerry rigged another drain pipe which went outside, but it didn’t work properly, so the rainwater just exited into the basement. What the actual fuck?

Good weather ahead

Some of the things people did to this place over the years were criminally stupid. The renovation to the rear where they put in a double garage, (good) but then they added a clothes closet right in the south corner of the house where all the winter sun would be coming in. (very bad) Then there’s the kitchen buried in and on the dark side where no sunlight was ever seen until I put in a door, which really didn’t make a huge amount of difference one way or the other. I could go on, but I’ll only get depressed about it. Despite all of this fuckery, this great house is still standing because of the people who built it in the first place over one hundred years ago.

I doubt anything similar built in the last 30 years would have the same staying power.

Good Day

If you’ve got an hour to waste. This could be interesting
