Today

is the day when everyone is supposed to sit around and pretend that WW1 and 2 were glorious victories against evil forces. I’m not on board with any of it. If you want to know my opinion, it’s pretty much the same as General Patton. ie “we fought on the wrong side”, but that’s not going to stop the celebrations and gas lighting that we get every year, so fuck it.

Gee, how uncannily predictive this turned out to be.

I’ve been building a smoker grill which is much more appealing to me than pretending that “we won the war”. It took me almost two days. In fact I started on the Saturday and finished it on the Sunday. There were a lot of different parts to bolt together, but it was better than the old one in that it wasn’t as big and it had a nice wooden shelf at the front which the old one did not.

Furthermore, I have been watching satellite TV. I took the big old dish that had been sitting on the roof of the Fortress and brought it up here. I’ve been watching one of my favorite channels Telecongo. It the national television service of the Republic of Congo. Founded on 27 November 1962 with a three-day experimental transmission funded by French company OCORA, and it started broadcasting operations in August 1963. It is the oldest television network in sub-Saharan Africa. They’re always speaking French, and it’s mostly incomprehensible to me, but it’s like watching a broadcast from Mars, because I’ll probably never go there.

No wonder this cat looks scared with all that air freightening material coming in!

The Wikipedia entry for Telecongo is an interesting read in and of itself. eg; “OCORA delivered air freightened material from France to cover five hours of programming a week, including a half-hour’s worth of footage produced by RTF news footage.” All things considered it’s well worth the cost of $0 to enjoy it. The only other viewing choices I have are Australia’s ABC, the BBC or free to air public broadcasting like PBS. All of these have their issues, and are mostly worthless government propaganda vehicles. I try and avoid the TV completely if I can.

TFW you’ve made a fashion faux pas

It’s been raining all weekend but as I write this, the sun has finally come out. There’s no point in me sitting inside now. I have stuff to do. Here’s another great moment from Telecongo. Thank God we’re not speaking German.

Good Day

Check out the latest live offering from the Fortress two weeks ago. We’re up to 14 views, it must be good. It’s not bad actually.
