Tennessee can now carry after Lawmakers passed a measure on Tuesday that would allow school staff to carry concealed handguns on school grounds, sending the bill to the governor a year after a (transgender) shooter opened fire and killed six people at a Nashville school. This I think is a positive move in the right direction, which will make progressive’s heads explode (not literally I hope) and the folk down on Planet Australia wring their hands and weep. The vote was 68 – 28. Not much doubt that most of them were for it. They’re not the only state to do this. At least 26 states have laws permitting teachers or other school employees to possess guns on school grounds, with some exceptions.

I’m not a huge gun fan, but I think people should be allowed to own them. I don’t think I’ll be buying a hand gun anytime soon, but I also think people should be allowed to own them. People in Australia have been so brainwashed into thinking that guns are dangerous and bad that even the mention of the word “gun” is like a violent act. It’s stupid. When we talk about gun laws around the world they say that Swiss gun laws are very lenient, and how people are required to own guns. That’s not exactly true. Firearms regulation in Switzerland allows the acquisition of semi-automatic, and with a may-issue permit, fully automatic firearms, by Swiss citizens and foreigners with or without permanent residence. The laws pertaining to the acquisition of firearms in Switzerland are among the most liberal in the world. Interestingly there isn’t a lot of gun violence in Switzerland.

Brazil tops the charts with the most gun deaths, with the USA, Mexico and India making up the top four. That’s not the full picture though, because if we take per capita firearm deaths, Venezuala, El Salvador, Guatemala, Columbia and Brazil make up the top four. The United States isn’t even in the top ten. Venezuala has very strict gun laws. In 2013 they stopped issuing new firearm licenses, and in 2017, the government banned the carrying of firearms in public places.

Venezualan street party.
The government declared that more than 15,000 firearms were confiscated in 2018. Sixty disarmament centers were created in the country and the penalty for illegal firearm possession was raised to twenty years imprisonment. So, if you’re in Switzerland you can get a gun very easily, in Venezuala you can’t. More people are killed with guns in the place where you aren’t supposed to have them, so what does that tell us? Let’s look at gun violence by state in the USA. Mississippi tops the list, followed by Louisiana and New Mexico. In 2021 suicides accounted for more than half US gun deaths according to the Pew (Pew…sorry, I couldn’t help it) Research Center. That seems like a lot, but I’m going by what the internet tells me. To sum up, it seems we don’t have a gun problem in places where the government allows you to have them without too many restrictions, we have a demographic problem, ie; a people problem.
