We’re flying by Las Vegas now. I can see the lights from up here. Only 4 hours to go. This journal will probably be two parter, (this is part 2) because I’m going to keep writing until I’ve got nothing left to say or I get too tired to put pen to paper.

It was Peal Harbor Day so the flags were at half staff
I’ve got plenty to say actually. My band gets back to rehearsal this week hopefully. Rick the drummer needed eye surgery so that put him out of action for a couple of weeks, which conveniently coincided with my vacation. Will we get out to play eventually? Who knows? I want to play out to audiences, but I feel like Elvis doing endless movies, and never see a live crowd. Every rehearsal is playing out on Youtube, but less than a hundred people see it. I dunno, I’ve got mixed feelings about it.

One of the more exciting events was the changing of a roof a/c unit
Hawaii is really fucking expensive and it’s gotten worse since I was here a year ago. A liter of organic milk costs $13 for example. Yogurt is 8 bucks, everything is twice the price of stuff on the mainland. I did manage to grab my favorite donut from the Paradise bakery on the way to the airport. Creme Brulee. At $6.30 it seems excessive for a donut and it is worth it. It was the last one they had too.

The Paradise Bakery Creme Brulee. (the yellow ones) That’s about $40 worth of donuts in that box
I also found a great place for food right at the beginning of the week. It was in a supermarket, the name which escapes me, but they had this hot buffet, I guess you would call it. Two choices plus rice, and mac salad. It was mostly different variations of beef, pork and chicken, all very nicely slow cooked Hawaiian style. The cat serving up this culinary extravaganza was quite heavy handed. Hawaiians like their food. I would have weighed 300 lbs in no time if I had stayed there any longer.

An added bonus was the Luau show three times a week
I’m not trying to stay awake. I took an over the counter sleeping pill, something I rarely do, but it will probably do fuck all. The first time I took one it knocked me out completely, but now they don’t seem to work at all. We’re more than half way there at this stage, but I’d rather be elsewhere. I should try and write some songs instead of boring people with this crap. Things will be back to normal after this, but what is normal is anyone’s guess.

Finally the North Carolina coast appeared as the sun rose.. Almost home
Yesterday it snowed, so winter is definitely on it’s way. I don’t mind it after being in 80 plus degree heat for the past eight days. It’s also a reminder that if I don’t like whatever weather I’m currently in, I can be somewhere else in a day, and it can all go away.
