to finish my greenhouse. It’s taking longer than I had imagined. The instructions are garbage, but I didn’t pay a lot of money for this thing, so it’s kind of an experiment. I also got side tracked, building a cart that I bought from Harbor Freight. It was $139, and came in a big box. The instructions for that were much better. 2,000 nuts and bolts later, it took me about 3 hours to build it.

The Haul Master. It’s a red blur of convenience and practicality.
It’s perfect for hauling heavy stuff around, and for $139, a bargain. A similar product made by anyone else costs twice as much. It remains to be seen how long it will last. The dude at the store asked me if I wanted to pay $20 extra in case it broke down. I would get a brand new one, he said. I told him if it broke down within two years I’d be really pissed off. It’s dumb way to sell things, or get an extra 20 bucks in my opinion. I wish the greenhouse was as easy as the cart, but I don’t want to talk about it any more. I’m bored with it already. I’ll build the fucking thing first and then report back. I do prefer to be outdoors in this weather, so it should be an enjoyable experience. I do also know it’s completely impossible to do any of this without cursing. If I can’t curse my way through it, it’s not gonna get done. If I had a dollar for every swear word, I could pay someone to build me a fucking greenhouse.

It would probably look like (above), but then if I had that much cash, I wouldn’t live here, so that would be the end of that. I have no idea where I would go though. Everywhere seems fucked. I like California but the taxes are too high, and it’s being destroyed. Hawaii would be nice, but it’s an island and it would get claustrophobic after a while. I like Japan too. I don’t speak Japanese. Similarly, places like Hungary, Romania and Poland seem appealing, but I don’t speak the language. Mexico is close and inexpensive, but there’s a lot of bad shit happening down there. This week we saw another bunch of surfer dudes hijacked and possibly murdered by local criminals. The exact same thing happened In 2015. Two Australian surfers, Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas, were killed in the western Sinaloa state. A van belonging to one of the Australians was found in the northwestern state in late November with two charred corpses inside.

Went out doing what they loved.
Mexican authorities said Thursday they have found tents and questioned three people in the case of two Australians and an American who went missing over the weekend in the Pacific coast state of Baja California. The burnt remains of their truck was also found this week. It’s not looking good. When a the girlfriend of one of the suspects is walking around with your cellphone, you probably don’t need it where you are now. It’s not a nice thing to think about.

Stay off social media
Friday’s journal has taken on a somewhat maudlin tone, but it reminds us that we live in a violent world where random events can occur. It’s also true that good things can happen, and life can be exciting and fun. Don’t go looking for trouble, and you’ll be less likely to find it. I blame social media apps for this. Don’t be going to dangerous places and advertising it on Instagram and TikTok. Don’t go anywhere like that if you can’t carry weapons to defend yourself. Don’t go there, period.
We started out talking about carts and greenhouses. How did we end up here? I don’t know man. I just write what comes into my head. Happy Friday, I love you. Welcome to Costco.
